The Dead Sea

One morning a week ago we set off for the Dead Sea - only an hour or so from Amman to the southwest.
More countryside pictures...

The Dead Sea - with Palestine in the distance
On the walk down.
Interesting instructions. The Sea is about 32% salt, nearly 10 times more salty than ocean water. I, of course, didn't believe it was really salty and had a taste.  Dumb idea.

A drink stand and a place where one can get "mudded."

Apparently the mud is good for what ails you.

A satisfied customer.

And here they are getting pictures to send to Mom.

Here's where Mike found out that his waterproof phone/camera wasn't. For some reason he took it with him into the water and dropped it.  And then it didn't work.  I guess waterproof doesn't mean saltwater proof.

Some of the other visitors that day.

And after a dip in the salt...everyone headed for the chlorinated pools.

Including the arab women...in their hijabs...which they did not take off to go swimming.

It was an extremely hot day - and humid for Jordan.

Can you imagine how excited she must have been at the prospect of visiting the Dead Sea in the heat wearing that black shroud.  Hubby and son look pretty comfy though.

  1. Sorry that you tasted the h20. The "idiot abroad" was floating in the sea when a filthy diaper drifted by!
