After long long hours on multiple planes through multiple countries, I arrived in Amman. And thankfully as I stepped through the airport doors to face a throng of unknown faces, I saw a sign in squiggly print: "Penny Travis" held up by a cute young man with a shy grin. I made it.
And here's two pictures of the city.
The initial living conditions were pretty grim. The four of us were housed in two one bedroom apartments whose total size was maybe 400 square feet - maybe. And dirty. When I arrived, Isadora was scrubbing the part of a wall designated as the kitchen. (The refrigerator resided in the so-called living room.) It was pretty dreadful and not exactly what we had been promised.
So...I wrote a nasty-gram to the arranger of the trip. We got an immediate response and the next morning, yesterday, we moved into a much larger/nicer place. Tomorrow the guys will move into another apartment which means each of us will get a separate bedroom - YIPPEE!
Enough about living conditions.
We all are suffering jet lag and our apartment fronts on a lively street here in Amman. It seems the empty lot downstairs is party central and Amman never sleeps.
Yesterday we visited several malls - I can't believe I've traveled all the way to Jordan to visit a mall.
This shop was called "Short and Long"- the mannequin would be more appropriate in the States perhaps.
Unusual window dressing for a country where many women are pretty much covered up.
And here we have the American influence....there's also a McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Burger King, KFC, Chili's, Dominos, something that looks remarkably like Dunkin Donuts and a TGI Fridays without alcohol.
But...we found the alcohol store. And have already depleted our initial purchase.
